Yurt life is much more connected to nature than conventional accommodation; connect to your surroundings; the sky, trees and song birds thru the skydome.
If you need fancy accommodation, need to be catered to, if you do not enjoy the woods, do not stay here. If you want to experience rural Alaskan lifestyle, are independent, enjoy being immersed in nature, enjoy peace and quiet, you will love it here:)

Alaska-tough made yurt: the Alaska version of a traditional Mongolian nomadic home.
Our yurt is in a quiet neighborhood 3 miles from of the village of Talkeetna, surrounded by forests, lakes and rivers. If you would like to explore the village of Talkeetna it is about a 45 minute walk, $5 taxi ride or to have your own wheels (car) is preferable. Ski trails in the winter and running/biking trails in the summer in all directions. Comfy, cozy and heated with woodstove, enjoy being close to nature and watch the stars, aurora and woods through the skydome from bed.
We are walking distance to an organic coffee shop/cafe, (Flying Squirrel Cafe) which provides a locally grown vegetable farm stand in the summer. If you are looking for a shower, your best bet is at the Talkeetna Roadhouse, where you get unlimited hot showers, fresh towels and all shower essentials for $5.(Call roadhouse to check their current schedule, all information provided upon arrival to the yurt) The roadhouse is also well known for hand made pies, absurdly large breakfasts, climbing paraphanalia, fireplaces, decades of National Geographic magazines and travelers from all over the world (as well as grizzled locals). Welcome to rural Alaska! Where even taking a shower is a social event!

The yurt is a small, one room home with a porch and propane grill. Perfect for a couple.
If it is cold, you are responsible for starting a fire and using the woodstove for heat. The woodstove is the only heat source. We provide firewood
Electricity, but no running water. Facilities (the restroom) are an old fashioned outhouse. No shower.
Our yurt is not fancy; but is a slice of the satisfaction of rustic Alaskan life, near civilization, but not quite there. Find out how comfortable you can be, simply.

Relax in a quiet neighborhood, a short distance from the village itself.
The Talkeetna area has an array of activities; hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, ziplining, canoeing, backcountry access, jet boating, flight seeing and during the winter skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating and ice fishing. Talkeetna is the starting point for Denali/McKinley expeditions, and is famous for our close up, open views of the entire Alaska Range and Denali. The village has a number of restaurant options; pizza, brewery pub, coffee shop, old fashioned roadhouse style cooking, high end lodge dining and a selection of gourmet food carts in the summer. Your host Brian, is the head brewer at the Denali Brewing Company and can advise you on fresh, local brews. Talkeetna is well known for its lively bar, music and arts scene. Every Friday, May thru August, the Denali Arts Council hosts live outdoor music in the downtown park. Don't forget to support local artists at the craft market, artisans cooperative. Come experience the quirky community of Talkeetna; a village 14 miles at the roads end; where life begins! Visitors fall in love with our town and never want to leave. Enjoy some real local style accommodation and let your hosts point you in the right direction to enjoy your stay in rural Alaska.

We are sorry to say that our yurt is not ADA accessible

The yurt, porch, grill, outhouse, kitchen, hammock, bonfire pit are all yours!

We are likely nearby to help orient you if you would like, but otherwise the yurt is an self sufficient abode. We do enjoy meeting people and sharing information about our area, but understand if you would like to left alone!

Near the village of Talkeetna, but far enough away from the bustle of summer visitors in a quiet neighborhood. Boreal spruce and birch forest.
We have built a private trail to a pond out the front door, and can point you in the direction to a trail that leads to the Susitna river

You be happiest and have the most flexibility if you have your own car.
As in the rest of Alaska, public transportation is a challenge; community efforts have created a shuttle service from the village to the health clinic and grocery store, with stops as requested along the way. There is also a local taxi service; $5 to town from the yurt.
There is bus service to Talkeetna, as well as rail service from Anchorage or Fairbanks. To get from the bus stop or train station to the yurt is approx 2 miles.
Please contact us if you have any requests or questions, we are more than happy to share information with you.

~The bed is handmade and 4 feet off the ground (see photo). If you have an injury or limited mobility, it could be difficult to access the bed.
~The outhouse has no door, IT DOES NOT NEED ONE. it is common in rural Alaska to not have a door; it increases airflow and decreases moisture build-up. It is private land, you will NOT be seen by anyone. Please let us know if this is a problem for you!
