Our house is a 17th century riad in one of the oldest parts of the Medina, 15 mins walk from the main square, Jemaa el Fna. It belonged to the court jester to the King and has 4 ensuite bedrooms including a lavishly decorated, historic master suite.

Lo spazio
This is a beautiful 17th Century courtyard house in one of the oldest parts of the Medina. The house is decorated in an uncluttered style that complements its stunning historic features. You enter the house by a heavy antique door and through a dog-leg corridor that takes you to the courtyard. The rooms are arranged around a lush courtyard with citrus and palm trees, where all you hear is the chirping of birds and the tinkle of the fountain, punctuated by the call to prayer.

On the ground floor:

- Two double bedrooms, each with a double bed and an ensuite shower room
- Fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker, microwave, coffee maker etc.
- Dining room/salon with an open fireplace

Staircase to the upper floor:

- One bedroom with two single beds (which can be joined into a double) and an ensuite bathroom with a shower over the bath
- The master suite, called a Douiria, with spectacular painted ceilings and walls, with much of the decoration dating to the 17th Century. The Douiria has an ensuite shower room, a separate WC and its own fireplace. An amazing, unique room. The Douiria can also be accessed by its own staircase. This traditionally allowed the head of the household to receive guests without the guests seeing the women of the household.
- Next to the Douiria, the main living room also has amazing historic painted ceilings and plasterwork in a style unique to old Berber houses in Marrakech.
- This floor also has a spacious open living room, which has one side open to the courtyard and is a great place to lounge around in spring and autumn.

Staircase to the roof terraces: two spacious roof terraces with lots of room to sit in the sun or shade, with a traditional Berber tent, a pergola, two sun loungers and some traditional benches. The roof terrace is an ideal place to have breakfast or a pre-dinner drink whilst admiring the view over the rooftops towards the Atlas mountains and the historic Koutoubia mosque.

One of the greatest things about the house is Manar, our housekeeper, who is very attentive and helpful. She (and her helper if there are more than 5 guests) prepares breakfast (from 8am), cleans, does the dishes and can take your clothes to the local laundry (washing charged at cost). Manar is normally available between 8am and 5pm. Her husband Aziz regularly assists her so you may see him too. If working late or very early she may spend the night in her room at the house.

Things you need to know:

- High quality bed and bath linen is provided.
- NEW - most rooms now have air conditioning - only the most historic rooms (the first floor living room and bedroom) do not have air conditioning. So 3 out of the 4 bedrooms have air conditioning, as well as the ground floor living/dining room.
- A Moroccan breakfast is included: coffee, tea, fresh orange juice, yoghurt, Moroccan pancakes, bread with butter, jam and honey, fresh fruit. Manar will try to fulfil special requests.

Accesso per gli ospiti
Guests have complete access to the entire house, other than a small room used by the housekeeper. When required to work very late or very early, the housekeeper may spend the night in this room.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
I take bookings from families and groups of friends who enjoy the house while respecting the neighbours and local customs. The house is not suitable for business travellers or parties. If you intend to do a photo or film shoot in the house or use images of the house for any promotional purposes, you need to ask at the time of booking.

Please take careful note of the check-in and check-out times before making your travel plans. On arrival you will be given the keys by the housekeeper who normally works from 8am to 5pm and lives quite far from the house. She can stay until 8pm for check-in. In exceptional circumstances (such as flight delays) she will stay and welcome you after 8pm for an additional charge of €20 (or 200 dirhams) payable locally. If staying late or accommodating early check-outs, the housekeeper may stay at the house overnight (she has her own small room).

Marrakesh, Marrakesh-Tensift-El Haouz, Marocco

Our neighbourhood, Kaat Ben Nahid, is one of the oldest in Marrakech, and has some of its most historic houses. It is located right next to the souks and the Ben Youssef mosque and medersa. Our street is an ancient, untouristy alleyway with no cars.

I live in London and the historic house in Marrakech is my holiday home. I love Marrakech and feel very lucky to own one of its historic houses.
Durante il tuo soggiorno
The house is only available when we are not there. Your day to day contact is with our housekeeper who is normally there from 8am to 5pm daily. She speaks good French and more than a few words of English. You can also keep in touch with her on the best known messaging app, for example to ask her to arrange your airport transfer on arrival. Our housekeeper is assisted by her husband and sister as necessary.
