Dove ti troverai

Shoreham, Vermont, Stati Uniti

This is an ideal base for
1) Mountain and Road Bikers. Hundreds of miles of lightly traveled, rural, dirt and paved roads. Study a map for countless options.
2) Boaters/Fisherman. Lake Champlain is the 6th great lake and the most beautiful. At this time we have a rowboat/dinghy, Old Town canoe, and two 10 foot kayaks (complimentary). We have a variety of life vests. Bring swim shoes to counter sharp mussel shells, rocks, etc. Motorboat rentals available at local marinas or bring your own. We have a large driveway with boat launch quarter mile away.
3a) Skiers Downhill. Killington and Sugarbush are 60 minutes away but our winter rate will be cheaper than their in season rate (and better accommodation) if you don't mind the drive. Another option is Middlebury Ski Bowl. Its only 30 minutes away and day passes are half the price of the big resorts. That's where I ski.
3b) Skiing Cross-country. Many commercial options within 45 minutes or ski out the door on frozen lake, cornfields.
4a) Birdwatchers/Nature lovers. Located on major migratory flyway for waterfowl. Ospreys, Bald Eagles, Hawks, Turkey Vultures, Woodpeckers, etc are also common sight.
4b) Wildlife sightings in last year within 5 miles of house - Red fox, Gray fox, Porcupine, Coyote, Whitetail deer, Black bear, Opossum, Raccoon, Mink, etc but dairy cows/farms dominate this county.
5) Leaf peepers. Starts in September. October is peak depending on elevation and latitude. Indian summers are getting longer.
6) History buffs. Fort Ticonderoga is 4 miles and a 5 minute ferry ride away. The ruins of the British Fort Crown Point and the French Fort St Frederic are a 9 mile drive, Mt Independence Historic Site is 6 miles away. This lake was hotly contested during French & Indian War, Revolutionary War and War of 1812. Study before you come.
7) Daytrippers. Take a drive. Route 100 & Route 30 are my favorites. Endless dirt backroads also. Lake George is 8 miles away when ferry is running.
8) Honeymooners. A very romantic setting for two....just relax and isolate from this crazy world. Read a book, write a novel, get a little tipsy with your friend, take a nap.
9) Isolation. Its 5 miles to the small village of Shoreham and 14 miles to Middlebury for groceries.
10) Ice fisherman....very popular locally and right out front.
11) Hikers...many options along lake, Green Mts and Adirondack Park which is directly across lake
Half day hikes we recommend
1) Kingsland Bay State Park in Ferrisburg, Vt (16 miles north). Spectacular lake views along shoreline cliffs. Park at Ferrisburg town beach parking lot and begin loop trail apx 3 miles long. Go for a swim but be careful. Its rugged and rocky not sandy. Awesome place to kayak.
2) Silver Lake Trail in Salisbury, Vermont (18 mi east). A moderate hike of 5.3 miles roundtrip up old carriage road. On the way up there is a cascading stream with spectacular waterfalls and swimming holes. The lake is great swimming, crystal clean, undeveloped and good chance of seeing loons and bald eagles. Make sure to take the nature trail around the lake. It looks far but really not that bad and its beautiful.
3) Black Mountain Trail, Lake George, New York (30 mi south)
Located on Pike Brook Road in Clemons, NY. The drive there is beautiful especially in the fall. A moderate hike of 2-4 hours depending on your timeline. Steep in places. At the top a breathtaking view of the entire northern portion of Lake George, including the island-dotted Narrows , the spectacular Anthony’s Nose and Rogers’ Slide to the north, and the jagged peaks of Tongue Mountain looming across from you. The lower narrow end of Lake Champlain can also be seen and if you know where to look, Shoreham
12) If your looking for a nice dining out experience head to
1) Shoreham Inn in the village (4 mi)
2) Bobcat Café in Bristol (17mi)
3) Lilac Inn in Brandon (16 mi)
4) Fire & Ice in Middlebury (14 mi)
