If you’re looking for a private and rustic retreat, a short 10 minute-drive from Matakana Village and just over an hour’s drive north of Auckland, you may well have found the perfect spot.

Set on a 20-acre lifestyle property – with spectacular views of the outer Hauraki Gulf - our tiny house offers a unique experience in the heart of the Matakana coastal region. Detached from the main household, it provides a tranquil and restorative space to relax and replenish the soul.

Lo spazio
Located in a delightful garden setting, the tiny house is sunny, elevated and offers panoramic views out to Little Barrier and Great Barrier island beyond. The surrounding cottage gardens are testament to Rebecca’s passion and expertise for creating a wonderful array of colours, textures and scents. Guests also have access to the swimming pool between the hours of 10 am – 6 pm.

Comprising a studio bedroom (double bed), ‘al fresco’ dining area, outdoor shower and toilet, all of your holiday needs are met. In essence, it is ‘camping’ with a difference, devoid of the leaky tent, flapping canvas and make-shift kitchen, offering instead a comfortable and creative alternative. Beyond the tiny house, 19 acres of paddocks graze a small herd of cattle, while our four hens supply fresh eggs on a daily basis.

The studio bedroom offers a double bed clad in cotton bed linen and is a great place to curl up for a siesta with a leisurely cup of tea. The adjacent ‘loggia’ features an electric jug, toaster, bar fridge, crockery and utensils and opens out to a small patio area, complete with gas BBQ and outdoor setting. The organic vegetable garden lends the tiny house its unique name and character. Enjoy free-range eggs from our hens or help yourself to fresh herbs and salad greens.

Built in 1969, the tiny house has a certain charm reminiscent of a bygone era, when life’s pleasures were simple. The outdoor shower is without question the ‘pièce de résistance’! There is nothing quite as satisfying as getting back to nature with a hot, outdoor shower after a lazy day at the beach. Enjoy the soft evening sun on your face and a gentle breeze on your back as you wash away the salt and sea-spray before heading to the Leigh Sawmill café, renowned for its great food and vibrant entertainment.

Rates include all linen, tea & coffee & Wi-Fi.

We have a 'no smoking & no pets' policy.

Dove ti troverai

Leigh, Auckland, Nuova Zelanda

Soak up the early morning sun or sip on a glass of chilled wine at the end of a summer’s day spent exploring all of the riches the region has to offer – from the artisan markets, local wineries and village restaurants to the spectacular, unspoilt beaches, local art galleries and coastal attractions.

Our property is located within a 5-minute drive of Leigh. Alternatively, take the beautiful coastal walk which will get you there in around 30 minutes (depending on your level of fitness). The village boasts a corner dairy, service station and Leigh Eats - our local café which offers delicious fish & chips, coffee & takeaway food - or you can grab a drink and a bite to eat at the Leigh Sawmill Café.

The Leigh Sawmill is a popular restaurant, bar and venue for local and international bands and regularly hosts live entertainment. It attracts people from all over the world. If you’re looking for a friendly and vibrant hub – with great food and pizza – then you will definitely want to check it out!

For those into snorkelling or scuba-diving, Goat Island Reserve – New Zealand’s first marine reserve - is just around the corner and Tawharanui Regional Park is a 20-minute drive away. Set on a remote peninsula, Tawharanui Regional Park boasts some of the region's most beautiful beaches, rolling pastures, shingled bays, native coastal forest and regenerating wetlands. The beach at Tawharanui is a favourite of ours for a picnic under a Pohutakawa, complete with swimming togs, a good book and a cold beer.

There are also excellent surf beaches nearby, including Daniel’s Reef, Pakiri Beach and Omaha Beach. Daniels Reef is a beach break on a rocky beach, located just north of Matheson’s Bay. Pakiri and Omaha are beach breaks on a sandy beach and both are located within a 15-minute drive of the tiny house.

And of course, the vibrant Matakana Village is just a short hop away (a 10-minute drive). It has the legendary Matakana Market on a Saturday morning and many other popular shops and amenities, including restaurants, bars, cafes, art galleries.

Last but by no means least is the Matakana Cinema, our exquisite boutique cinema. En-route you will find the well-known Vivian Gallery, host to a wonderful display of contemporary New Zealand art and arguably Matakana’s ‘best-kept secret’, and the Sawmill Brewery, Matakana’s latest offering which serves a range of excellent craft beers.

If you love nature, the great outdoors, star-gazing, fishing, swimming, diving, snorkelling, surfing, walking and wine-tasting, then the Matakana coastal region, with its stunning beaches, wineries, restaurants and bars, is definitely for you.
