Lo spazio
The Pelican Suite was lovingly designed for the comfort and privacy of our guests. It is adjacent to a ground-floor screened-in area with outdoor furniture for lounging and reading. The Suite is steps away from our pool, down a shell path, past native flowers and a beautiful cocoplum hedge.

Excellent high-speed internet included. Enjoy Netflix or cable programs from the luxury of your King bed. We are meticulous housekeepers and your Suite is clean and fresh at all times. In-room A/C and heat control.

Considered one of the few areas that's still "Old Florida", Pine Island is a rural, fishing island in the Gulf of Mexico, linked to the mainland (Cape Coral-Fort Myers) by a small lift bridge in the village of Matlacha. (Known as the "Fishingest Bridge in America!") Palm tree plantations are numerous.

Like many island homes in south Florida and the Caribbean, our home is built on stilts, and we are located on a private sandy-shell road. Our living quarters are upstairs, and the Pelican Suite is downstairs at ground level, with its own private access. Guests are free to come and go as they please, we simply request 'quiet hours' after 10 PM.

Our small heated pool is available to you from 7 AM to 10 PM. It's surrounded by a mature hedge for complete privacy, and is screened.

Water taxis ($) to Cayo Costa State Park, North Captiva, and other Gulf islands, available from nearby Pineland Marina on Waterfront Drive.

Message us for our AirBnb Guidebook to sightseeing ideas, parks, restaurants, etc. We're also happy to recommend local favorites, depending on your interests.

Search our island online: "Pine Island, Lee County", "Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail"; also see "Matlacha", "Pineland", "Bokeelia" "Calusa Heritage Trail", "Cayo Costa State Park", all within reach of the Pelican Suite. Harbor tours are sometimes available from "Captiva Cruises", and others.

Nearest airports are Fort Myers-Southwest Florida, and Punta Gorda-Port Charlotte, Florida.
Car rentals at both airports.

Accesso per gli ospiti
Your private space includes your ground-level secure suite with its own bathroom, a furnished outdoor patio lanai (just outside your room), our garden and our small heated pool. Guest parking is outside the downstairs main door (front), for easy loading and unloading.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
Bird-watchers will enjoy a variety of activity in the early morning hours just outside your door, depending on the season.

State-protected Gopher Tortoises are also found in this habitat. In fact, you may spot one in our garden!

We are members of the Florida Native Plant Society and our yard contains several unique local trees and plants that attract birds and butterflies.

Note to paddlers and kayakers...

The Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail is a 190-mile canoe and kayak trail that meanders through the coastal waters and inland tributaries of Lee County, Florida, especially in the vicinity of Matlacha and Pine Island. It attracts everyone from first-time kayakers to advanced paddlers and is home to abundant marine life, shore birds and crustaceans. For current trail info, search "Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail". Also search: "Peter Ordway Paddling Tour, Calusa Land Trust".

Bokeelia, Florida, Stati Uniti

Our home is on a sandy-shell road, just off of Stringfellow Rd, which runs the entire length of Pine Island: 18 miles (Florida's largest island).

A concrete bike path is parallel to Stringfellow, linking four small communities, from Bokeelia in the north to St. James City in the south. (However the most interesting biking is off the path, down many of the quiet side streets.)

Unlike the barrier islands of Sanibel to the south, Captiva to the southwest, and North Captiva-Cayo Costa to the west, Pine Island has no beaches, and is made from the same coral rock as the mainland.

Pine Island is surrounded by mangroves ('nurseries' for many saltwater sport fish) and includes three aquatic preserves. Dolphins abound.

Residents and visitors are attracted to Pine Island's natural rural character, fishing, and boating. Pine Island is mostly agricultural land, with large palm plantations and conservation areas. Some visitors travel significant distances to purchase tropical fruit such as lychee and mangos grown and sold on Pine Island.
Typically, the island is described as "quiet" and "small town", which we wholeheartedly endorse!

Pine Island is also the original homeland of the Calusa indigenous people, now extinct. Their historically-significant shell mounds are protected and studied in nearby Pineland (including a burial mound that was utilized for more than 700 years by the Calusa). This restful, contemplative area is open to the public year round.

Neighboring islands, best beaches: Cayo Costa State Park (accessible only by boat), Bowman's Beach (Sanibel Island), and Boca Grande (Gasparilla Island).
