Lo spazio
From the piazza, a glass-fronted entry-door with external shutters (perfect for luggage access!), opens to reveal a pristine bedroom offering quality queen-size mattress, high thread-count linens and non-allergenic pillows, with modern en-suite bathroom comprising glassed shower cabinet, toilet, vanity basin, glass-shelved alcove, and heated towel-rack hung with soft waffle towels.

Internal or external stairs lead up to the living space encompassing a bright open-plan sitting room incorporating kitchen and dining area. The modern fully-fitted kitchen offers direct lake-views through double-glazed windows incorporating electronic blinds, dishwasher, glass-top induction hob, combi-oven with micro/convection facility, integrated fridge/freezer, tumble-washer, and large separate condenser-dryer.

A back door opens out to a shaded (shared) outdoor space.

In front of the property in Piazza Caprani, an al-fresco setting is ideal for relaxing at any time of the day, and especially in the evening with an aperitivo; alternatively join the locals and visit a lively bar.

The piazza in front of the house offers direct water access for swimming; alternatively, just a few meters away on Via San Rocco, the popular beach in Sala offers sand for sunning, and sandy access to the Lake for swimming.

Accesso per gli ospiti
Guests can easily access Sala by train from Malpensa or Linate to Como. From Como travel by local C10 (blue) bus or by taxi (€60-70). A taxi from Malpensa to Sala costs €130, from Linate €150 – we are happy to book transfers for you with English speaking driver.

For Sala request the bus to stop at San Rocco outside the village Bakery where we are delighted to greet you upon arrival. C10 bus tickets are to be purchased before boarding the bus and are available at the coffee shop at the Como San Giovanni train station. The ticket for Sala is a tariff 6.

By the bus stop on the main road you’ll discover Amalia's village bakery selling freshly baked bread daily, and general supplies.

Also in the village, three caffé/bars (two with free Wi-Fi), and four restaurants open in season, all with al-fresco terraces, offering a varied choice from pizza to fine-dining.

The bank is located at the entrance to Sala and provides the service of a Bancomat (ATM). Opposite you'll find an artisan butcher with delicatessen for your convenience.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
General food items including fresh bread, meat and small goods, twice weekly vegetable van, wine, beer, soft drinks, bottled water, and ice creams, etc are all conveniently available in the village of Sala.

Nearby Lenno (1.8 km) offers two supermarkets, a pharmacy, and English-speaking medical service.

Emergency Hospital assistance is available in Menaggio.

Sala Comacina, Lombardia, Italia

In Sala the main square is called Piazza Matteotti. From here a water-taxi service connects to the island with its medieval history; maybe better known today for Locanda dell' Isola Restaurant, famous for its celebrity status and set menu, unchanged since 1947. The island’s La Botta (Barrel) Bar is a lovely place to enjoy relaxing refreshment after walking the island, or when returning to Sala by lake ferry, or simply to visit for an evening aperitivo as the sun sets the surrounding mountains aflame. In the square you'll also find Restaurant La Tirlindana with alfresco dining in season and indoors during the colder months.

The Lake’s many famous attractions are all within easy reach by car, local C10 bus, or regular ferry service (pontile near Relais Hotel Taverna Bleu), from where tickets from Sala are available on board, or stopping more frequently at the island. Tourist attractions include villas such as Balbianello, Carlotta, and Melzi; the towns of Cadenabbia, Bellagio, Varenna, and Menaggio, and the international ambiance of Cernobbio and exclusive Hotel Villa d’Este. In Como the ‘Centro Storico’ is a shoppers’ paradise with an easy-going charm, and enchanting historical ambiance.

The Greenway Walk explores historic spots along the lake and connects from above the house (access from the Yellow Chapel along Via degli Ulivi near the cemetery), or by taking the ancient and unique Via dei Pini behind Pro-Loco. From Sala amble to Ossuccio and beyond to Lenno, Mezzegra, and Tremezzo (Villa Carlotta), finishing in Griante, a distance of some 8 km – meandering along the lakeshore and at other times higher up with panoramic views. The Greenway is easily doable in parts, as the walk touches C10 bus stops and ferry embarkation points along its path.

The community of Sala provides a beach with swimming area set into the lake at the beginning of the ‘Lungo Lago’, some 50 metres down from Bar Romano/Caffé Milani (bottle shop) on Via Rocco.

Another local watering hole is Cimino’s Bar Sport (which sells cigarettes), next to the bank. Sit inside or on the roadside and watch the world race past.

In nearby Lenno (1.8 km) the Tuesday weekly market in the town square and along the waterfront around the beautiful ‘Baia di Venere’ (the Bay of Venus), has been drawing visitors for over 100 years to troll the stalls selling everything from vegetables, plants, clothing, small goods, hot roast meats, hardware, to caged birds. At anytime the Lenno waterfront is a wonderful spot to enjoy a stroll or refreshment and both Bar Golfo and Bar Sport offer free Wi-Fi.

In Lenno you'll also find a Sigma supermarket, petrol station, hardware shop (Valdé), and coffee shop with free Wi-Fi, all within a few metres of each other dispersed across the intersection of Via Rima and the main road, Via Statale (SS340). Close by is the more interesting local Dino’s supermarket, and a pharmacy (English spoken). Shop hours vary.

Fiona and I hope that you will enjoy staying at Casa Cordelia as much as we did creating what we feel is a gorgeous property. Named for my grand daughter and the favourite daughter of King Lear in William Shakespeare’s play, Casa Cordelia is our delightfully realised recreation of a fisherman's cottage with captivating modern charm, yet with authentic lake-side village ambiance. Our friend Robbie resides close to Casa Cordelia and will be there to welcome you whether at the bus stop of San Rocco in Sala, or in the car park close to the house where one can easily unload before being directed to tourist parking areas (or paid reserved parking), and welcomed into the house and shown around.
