Nestled in what is a natural amphitheatre, Waimahu Retreat offers guests a truly peaceful and serene experience. The property is protected from the southerly and westerly winds and enjoys its own little microclimate.
Awake to the ‘orchestral sounds’ of our bird life with such species as Tuis, Kereru, Pukekos, Fantails, Herons and the ‘odd domestic’ from our resident magpies.
The deck or the pergola offers a telescopic vista of bush on one side, paddocks on the other, then stretching out to Kawau Bay, Kawau Island, Tawharanui Peninsula, Little Barrier and beyond.
The house is a blend of modern comfort mixed with classic charm, adorned with many antique furnishings gained from our life overseas.
Accesso per gli ospiti
Waimahu offers a shared Guest Lounge to relax in, with a flat-screen TV (Sky & Netflix provided.) The deck outside the guest lounge has a perfectly situated table where you can rest in the shade and wile away your hours. A pergola has been erected at the top of the property to take advantage of the magnificent view. At the large table there, you can enjoy a drink, or if you wish, have your own BBQ.

An hour north of Auckland, the magnificent Matakana Coast area is the playground for Aucklanders; with it's picturesque vineyards, boutique wineries, award winning breweries, restaurants, world famous farmers market, cafes, pristine beaches and marine reserves. By being based at Waimahu Retreat, you will have a plethora of activities to indulge in.
The Matakana region provides a wealth of experiences and activities. Outdoor pursuits such as fishing, boating, diving, surfing and swimming are the main attractions. Beaches abound, ranging from surf beaches to safe swimming beaches. However there is a thriving wine culture in the area with a number of vineyards opening for tastings or for lunch. There is a flourishing local arts and craft community with a number of shops, collectables and cottage industries to visit.
Great excursions are; catching the ferry to Kawau Island and having lunch at The Boathouse at Vivian Bay: cruising the Mahurangi River on an restored schooner; eating oysters on the Shuck ferry; spending the morning at the Saturday Matakana Farmers Market; visiting the Tawharanui Regional Park, (beach, swimming, surfing and great walks,); dinner and the movies at the Matakana Vintry and Cinema Matakana Village; and diving or snorkelling at Goat Island Marine Park, Leigh.
Waimahu is situated 3 minutes from Martins Bay and Snells Beach, with Matakana and Warkworth being a 10-minute drive. You can visit the main scenic places in this area in a day, and we will be happy to organise this for you, or give suggestions of the places to visit.
