Johny Moose Backwater Farm is located on the banks of the meenachil river within the limits of Aymanam village made famous by Arundhati Roy's Booker Prize winning novel 'The God of Small Things'. The 17 acre property is owned and operated by Mr Johny Moose and family and has been the family home for more than 100 years. All the guests are cared for by the family, with authentic Kerala food coming from our home kitchen. Quiet and peaceful, a perfect place to do a lot of "nothing". Just be!

Lo spazio
Johny Moose Backwater Farm is first and foremost a working fish farm, developed over a period of 20 years. The guest accomodation, 'Ullasakottaram' or as we lovingly call 'Kingdom of Lazyness', which overlooks our 5 acre private pond, was built after demands from friends and family. Now we have opened it to the outside world as a means of additional income to the farm and an opportunity to meet new people. Hence the landscape and atmosphere is more natural and functional, suiting a farm and not a luxury resort. Simple yet beautiful!

Accesso per gli ospiti
The entire farm is open to guests. In fact we only have one guest at a time, meaning you’ll have the entire place to yourself and our undivided attention. While here guests can try fishing within the farm or if you are patient enough, in the river. There is a country boat within the farm to learn paddling in a safe and controlled environment.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
Plunge Adventures, an adventure tourism company operates from the farm and activities like kayaking and stand up paddling are provided at an extra cost.

Also please note we are a small passionate team who enjoy what we do and we intend to keep it that way. So if you are looking for a luxurious property with all the bells and whistles there are plenty of resorts at Kumarakom. At Johny Moose Backwater Farm we are not just selling an experience, we are experiencing with you.

Aymanam is part of the Kumarakom wetland system and major part of the village is covered by paddy fields with the meenachil river flowing in between. There are old temples and churches to check out. A few toddy parlours if you want to experience the local cuisine and alcohol, exactly how the villagers do. The Vembanad lake is just 8 kms if you go by river or walking/cycling by riverbank and paddy fields. The villagers are a friendly folk and will always greet you with a smile. There are also plenty of birds around
