The long wait is now over! The hills of Munnar will soon be bathed in a dreamy shade of blue. The Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthianus) blooms only once in every 12 years and it sure is a sight to behold!

Trek with Our In House Naturalist
You can choose to trek with our in house naturalist who will take you through the tea plantations all the way up to the Attukad waterfalls. On the way you will come across people from the local community who work at the tea plantations. In the distance you can watch the beautiful sight of the waterfalls dropping like a stream of milk over the rocks. Once you reach the falls you can take in the picturesque beauty and breathe in the fresh air. Please be advised that entering the falls or the river is dangerous due to the presence of strong undercurrents and the underwater troughs.

Yoga and Meditation
The ancient practice of Yoga and meditation has stood the test of time and continues to prove its worth over modern medicine in terms of the long term mental and physical well being of those who practice the lifestyle prescribed by the tenets of yoga. As part of our efforts to inculcate a habit of healthy living, we at Blanket Hotel and Spa provide our guests with an opportunity to partake in a yoga session with our in house yoga instructor in the morning.

The Cultural Performance

My Attukad, My Munnar (Trekk)
A full day trekking program beginning at the resort’s garden all the way through the tea plantation roads, the Attukad Waterfalls, bamboo forests and the housing settlements of the tea plantation workers. Such an experience will give you a glimpse into the lives of the people of the local community.

Bird Watching
The environment near our resort is home to almost 40 different species of birds and 30 different species of butterflies. Be sure to have your camera ready to capture these beauties of nature at play.

Cycling
Guest can indulge themselves along the leisurely cycling trails near the hotel as they take in the fresh country air of the nearby tea estates and the serene waterfalls.

Chocolate Making
A program exclusively designed for children and chocolate lovers alike. This program is conducted by the Junior Chef and our young guests can learn, enjoy and taste the home made chocolates from our Junior Chef’s cafe.

Chef’s Corner
This activity provides the guest with a platform to showcase their culinary skills and talent. Guests are also welcome to cook with the chef and sample the dishes they have prepared. Also, they can teach the chef a thing or two about their favorite dish and its recipe. As a prize the Executive Chef rewards the guest with the ‘Chef of The Day’ prize and their snaps will be posted the next day on the social media page of our resort.

Munnar is considered one of the best tourist destinations in the world. Greeted by virgin forests, savannahs, rolling hills, scenic valleys, numerous streams, gushing waterfalls, sprawling tea plantations and winding walkways, Munnar is one of the most picturesque locations in the world.
1,600 m above sea level, this hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India. Sprawling tea plantations, picturesque towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town. Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands here is the Neelakurinji. This flower which bathes the hills in blue once in every twelve years, will bloom during August to October in 2018. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India, Anamudi, which towers over 2,695 m. Anamudi is an ideal spot for trekking.

Attukad captures one’s attention for its endless trails making it an indisputable part of every trekking enthusiast’s bucket list. Imagine rolling hills, a multitude of waterfalls, rare species abound, and a cool breeze that accompanies you the entire way. The visuals alone arrest your eyes for days as everywhere you turn; all you can see are natural masterpieces. It is a place that must be traversed in the company of those you love, as these memories cannot ever be properly described with words alone.

Local language
The local language of Munnar is Malayalam. Even Tamil is widely spoken throughout the length and breadth of this region. If you are not well-versed with either of these languages, there is no need to worry as most of the locals know English as well.

Food
Munnar is also a food lover’s delight. You will love the food in Munnar as the local Kairali cuisine caters to every taste and palate. If you are a vegetarian, try the Kairali thali that comprises of a tender coconut kheer, vegetable pachadi (salad), mixed vegetable stir fry, puli enji, mixed vegetable thoran, rice with rasam and sambhar, among others, that are all served on a banana leaf.
You can savor umpteen dosa and idlis. Also, try idiyappam with vegetable stew, that is available in restaurants only before 10 am.
There are also many options for non-vegetarians like Kerala style Malabar parotta and rice that are served with fish and meat. You can try delicacies like fish in Kerala curry. For a change, go to the Thattu Kada (street food stall) that opens at 6 pm in the evening and stays open till 1 am.

As there are plenty of cardamom and tea plantations all around Munnar and you can sip on a piping hot cup of cardamom chai whilst touring this city.

Weather
As it is situated 1600 meters above sea level, the weather in Munnar is always pleasant, whether it be the summer, winter or monsoon .
Summers last from March to June and the temperature fluctuates between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. By the end of June, the monsoons start, leaving this entire hillside misty and cold. The weather keeps getting colder, reaching its peak in December and this is the beginning of winter. This winter season lasts till February. It can extremely cold with temperatures dipping as low as 5 degrees Celsius.
If you are planning a trip here, ideally the best time to visit Munnar would be from September to May. However, the favorable climate of Munnar makes it all year round holiday destination.
