Johnny's Place is a tiny log cabin nestled in the woods of Whale Pass, Alaska. Located just a short walk to the mouth of Neck Lake Outlet, where it empties into Whale Passage. This location is known as a great Coho salmon fishing destination. The log cabin provides a cozy retreat after a day of enjoying the beautiful outdoors. The ability to provide yourself with hot food, hot showers, clean clothes and comfortable beds, will greatly enhance your enjoyment of our wonderful island. Welcome!

Lo spazio
Experience a truly Alaskan get-away. This is where you come to "unplug" from the outside world. Whale Pass boasts a total lack of cell phone coverage with Wi-Fi available 24/7 at the public library 3.5 miles away. The cabin is supplied by water that is collected in a tank and then filtered for safety. The water carries tannins which are harmless and give the water a colour similar to weak tea; this is common in SE Alaska when visiting outside cities.
There is a trail directly across from the driveway that leads to the mouth of Neck Creek, where it empties into Whale Passage and provides fishing, as well as bird, bear and other wildlife viewing opportunities.
We also have two, single person sea kayaks, with paddles & life jackets, to rent for an extra fee. Use them to explore the many lakes and coves in the area.
There are many caves to explore on the north end of Prince of Wales Island, with the largest and easiest being El Capitan Cave. (Contact the US Forest Service for summer cave tour reservations.) The Prince of Wales Chamber of Commerce also has a website with helpful information for planning your trip. And please don't hesitate to ask us! We love to help our guests customize their trip to their interests.

Accesso per gli ospiti
The entire cabin, with spacious covered deck, is yours for your visit. Our house is up the hill "through the woods", yet close enough if you have any questions.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
There is no cellular phone coverage in Whale Pass or most of the remote locations on our island. Wi-Fi is available at the public library just 3.5 miles from the cabin.

Whale Pass has a full time population of almost 100.
A small convenience store, about one mile away from the cabin, which offers basic supplies, snacks, fishing tackle and local art.
The gas station is open in the morning and evening.
There is a public library which provides a wonderful selection of books & DVD's, as well as guest computers and Wi-Fi.
Whale Pass Bible Church offers Sunday School at 9:45 am & Service at 11 am. The rustic building has been featured on the cover of the SE Alaska phone book and also served as the inspiration of one of Thomas Kinkade's paintings. Feel free to stop in and take photos or join in the service.
The harbor and boat launch is located 3.5 miles from the cabin and provides boat access to the bay. If you are interested in a fishing charter, I can give you some names of locals that are licensed for that service.

We love living in Alaska! We have been married for over 30 years & raised our three children here in Whale Pass. It is a pleasure sharing our "Alaskan life" and experiences with others. Our home is "up the hill" from the cabin & we welcome interaction with our guests, but are just as comfortable with guests who desire privacy.
