A distinctive historic farm and modern home available for an exclusive rental experience. The house was completely restored in 2005 adding a new addition that houses a large modern kitchen, and 3 full baths (over 3,800 sq ft). A top Washington decorator designed the home specifically to create an ideal family/friends active getaway, explore its 110 private acres with its trails and activities. Please note that this property is not set up to accommodate weddings or events.

Lo spazio
The original part of the house (log cabin) dates back to the 1700's and is the second oldest structure in Madison County. The house has all the modern conveniences including wireless internet and direct TV so you can stay connected, but the house has maintained its unique historical charm to include its wide hickory planked floors, log cabin rooms with stone fireplaces, and hand crafted wood work throughout the home. The house even offers a "pub" room that's great to enjoy a drink while playing darts or cards after a hard day of outdoor activities. There's also a game room building in the back with a commercial quality Foosball and Shuffleboard tables. Additionally, there is a dry sauna (use at your own risk and follow instructions provided in the welcome book). There are five total bedrooms along with a Sunroom that closes off with a king sized comfort sleeper. There are 15 total beds and can sleep up to 18 if there are five couples. The breakout as follows:
a. Downstairs (2 rooms), bedroom 1 has queen bed and the Sunroom has a king sized comfort sleeper (no springs) sofa.

b. Upstairs (4 rooms)
-Yellow room, king sized bed
-Green room, king sized bed
-Brown room, queen sized bed and 4 twin beds allows for another couple room or kids
-Bunk room, 3 bunk beds, 4 are doubles and 2 are twin sized.

Our objective is to treat our guests the same as we would our extended family/friends that come and visit the farm. Therefore, we provide all important essentials to such as: linens, towels, blankets, essential paper products, cleaning supplies, some laundry detergent, coffee, spices and condiments (no guaranteed stock), charcoal, lighter fluid and wood for fire place (some local cabins charge $40.00 just for the firewood). There is also a 25 pound a day ice maker. Please note that to keep the cleaning fee modest, you will need to make your own bed upon arrival. Covers and blankets are on the beds with its sheets folded at the base. Finally, our Caretakers (Bill and Delores) live nearby and are available to personally address any concerns or questions you may have.

The owners have great connections in the local community and welcome the opportunity to provide recommendations on a host of cultural and historic sites to visit. The best reference is the Madison Chamber of Commerce website for a listing of local events during your planned visit.

Accesso per gli ospiti
Have complete use of house and grounds to include use of the outdoor sauna (use at your own risk, please follow instructions in welcome book) and fit pit. Indoor fire place can be used during winter months, wood is supplied. There are also bicycles that can use (use at your own risk). Note that there is a whole house back up generator just in case! Owner does not live locally but the care takers live just minutes away.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
Farm is located six miles from Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park. Many historic places to see including the homes of James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. Several vineyards just minutes away: Sharp Rock, DuCard, Prince Michel and Early Mountain. The property is 15-20 minutes from the historic towns of Culpepper, Madison and Sperryville, ideal for shopping and quality restaurants. Additionally, our location serves as a perfect vacation site to explore the many historic landmarks of the Shenandoah Valley and its vast natural beauty.

The farm can be enjoyed year round. The owners really like being at the farm during the winter months as the Mid Atlantic usually has fairly mild winters so during the day it's warm enough to be outside and hike without the bugs and thorn bushes scratching you and you come back at night and enjoy huddling around the fireplaces at night. During the winter months, the owners will provide a full refund if one of those rare snow storms hit the area and prevent safe travel.

Madison, Virginia, Stati Uniti

Madison County has been a crossroads of history for over 11,000 years. Paleo-Indians, the royal governor Alexander Spottswood and the Knights of the Golden Horseshoe, as well as Civil War Generals Stonewall Jackson and J. E. B. Stuart along with their men have all been visitors to Madison County. Trails and early roads led through the Piedmont area of Madison and up into the Blue Ridge Mountains enabling 18th and 19th century travelers to enter the Shenandoah Valley. Early settlers included German, English and Scots/Irish families in the 18th century. Descendants of these families still live in Madison.

President Herbert Hoover bought land in the mountain area of Madison and built his summer camp there. His official visit to the town of Madison in August 1929 is commemorated annually. The county has retained its rich agricultural tradition and has maintained the architectural heritage of 18th and 19th century buildings and homes. Museums offer a view to the past for history buffs of all ages and a walking tour of the town of Madison enables visitors to appreciate its beauty. Travel through the county will bring the visitor into the unique blend of country life today amidst the historical evidence of years gone by.

For cycling enthusiasts from other parts of the country, the mountain scenery coupled with the quiet, safe, country roads are a national treasure to be experienced. The very popular Tour de Madison Bike Ride (held in mid-May every year), and the ride enjoys national stature. The Tour is not a race, but rather designed as a wonderful way to see the great scenic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They have routes for the entire family; you can choose between 16, 40, and 62 miles along country roads. If you can't make the actual weekend, the owner will provide you with the specific routes of the Tour so can enjoy them during your stay. Your group could even do a different 'century' every day for a week and beyond the initial few miles leaving/returning to the house; you will not have to cover the same ground twice!

I am the co-owner of Whippoorwill Manor Farm which has been in our family since 1950. I've traveled to over 125 countries and all the states but believe that this is one of the most beautiful places on earth in a region full of great American history. We strive hard to maintain a park like atmosphere of the home and property. Our friends and extended family love to spend time together here as there is so much to do year round. You never need to leave the property. The farm also grows hops used by local craft brewers. A sample is provided for your enjoyment, my motto, beer not wine!
