Enjoy your private, three-room, top-floor sanctuary in a quiet neighborhood located high above Union Square, Somerville's hottest spot! Private third floor suite with a view, a private and modern bathroom, large bedroom and sitting room with desk. 756 sq ft/70.23 sq meters of space! Conveniently located on bus lines that can take you to three of MBTA's subway lines and only a 20 minute car ride from the airport.

Lo spazio
Here at the Windmill House, you'll be able to relax on your very own floor following your busy day seeing the sights of Boston, defending your dissertation, or enjoying an Irish pub. This three room suite is a quiet and comfortable sanctuary, located on the top floor and removed from the rest of the house. You'll find:

• a large and spacious bedroom with a queen bed, desk and large closets

• a living room/den (that can double as a second bedroom), with your own mini-fridge, an electric kettle and coffee maker, dishes, glasses, silverware, and napkins.

• your own private and recently renovated bathroom with a double vanity and shower with views of the Cambridge skyline including Harvard University's Sanders Theatre spire

The Windmill House is located at the top of Prospect Hill at the site of the old windmill, the highest point of the Hill. Our neighborhood is generally quiet unless you visit during PorchFest, the Honk Festival, or the Fluff Festival. Somerville loves a good festival!

Prospect Hill, where the first American flag was raised on January 1, 1775, is extremely well situated. We are located 1.4 miles (2.25 km) to Harvard Sq., 1.3 miles (2 km) to Central Sq., 2.0 miles (3.2 km) to Tufts University, and 2.3 miles (3.7 km) to MIT. All of these destinations have direct bus access located very close by. To speed you on your way to all the other areas of Boston, the buses can deliver you to the Green, Orange or Red Line.

Parking: On-street parking is available, however, if you visit us for longer than two days, your car might need to move into the tandem driveway. With good communication, we can manage to have the cars in the correct order based on schedules.

Our neighborhood offers many wonderful, small family-owned restaurants, many of which are happy to deliver right to your door. Our in-room guide will help you find places that make you happy.

The house and garden are served by a wireless network. For more secure online work, both the bedroom and living room have an ethernet drop.

You are always welcome to use the microwave and countertop oven in the kitchen, but since we use the kitchen for preparing our own meals from approximately 5pm-8pm, if you wish to do any complicated cooking, we would need to discuss your needs and how best to accommodate them.

We provide all linens, towels, shampoo, conditioner, hair-dryer and in a pinch, a toothbrush.

The Windmill House is a low-odor (not scent free) home. All cleaning products are made by either Seventh Generation or Method. Laundry is done with a low scent detergent. Our cleaners use HEPA filters for the vacuuming and our personal vacuum is a water entrapment system.

All bed fabrics are 100% cotton. The queen bed has 680-count cotton sheets while the living room bed linens are a 360-count percale. The towels are also 100% cotton. The duvets are polyfills with cotton shells avoiding any allergens.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
• The Windmill House offers a choice of a continental-style breakfast, placed in your room daily, or a hot breakfast available on the first floor, ready after 8:30am. The continental-style breakfast includes a choice of plain yogurt, granola, house-made breakfast breads, homemade rye roll with a round of gouda-style cheese, hard-cooked egg, or croissant with jam. For a cooked breakfast, we offer Congee/Juk (粥) or Irish cut oatmeal with toppings. Instant oatmeal, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and milk are always available. (With sufficient notice, gluten-free, dairy-free, gluten-free/dairy free, or a vegan breakfast bread are an option.)

• This home is located at the top of a hill above Union Square and the rooms are on the third floor of a 1903 house with high ceilings. (This is a big enough hill that the "rebels" were able to keep the English from reaching their gunpowder for six months.) Though three of the five local bus lines do not require walking up or down the hill, this might not be the perfect spot for anyone with mobility issues.

• Summer: The bedroom and living room/den have a window air-conditioner during the summer months. The door to the rooms should be kept closed when the air conditioner is being used. We request that you turn the temperature up in the bedroom, and turn off the smaller unit in the sitting room when you leave for the day.

• Winter: Like most New England homes, our house is built of wood and slightly creaky. Our heating system is also classic-- steam radiators. It is the nature of radiators to hiss and bang once in a while as the system adjusts itself. Occasionally someone finds these things odd. In winter, we keep the interior temperature of our house at around 67°F / 19.4°C during the day, less at night. This is common for the Northeast USA where energy costs are high and old houses leak heat badly. Everyone here wears sweaters indoors, sometimes two.

Susan is a Boston area native and after living all over this country, was able to come back home in 1991. Until recently, she was a professional violinist and arts administrator. Currently Susan is a database developer. She works from her home office serving clients from all sectors. When she was 11, Susan was sent to live with her cousins in the French countryside and a love of travel was born. Susan still has a long list of places she wants to visit. Susan is an avid home cook. She loves to explore the heritage of other cultures through their food. Her favorite cuisines are Indian, Turkish, anything Middle Eastern, Chinese, and Malaysian. Every day the question is "what country should we cook from today?" During the summer, the table is covered with the amazing vegetables, grown at one of our local farms. Susan loves to share her knowledge of Boston with visitors from around the world. She has been an active home-swapper for years and in the far distant past, worked in the hospitality industry. She knows how to make her guests feel at home and is able to be social or not, depending on the desires of her guest. She is also committed to her volunteer efforts, and recently participated in a "shaving day" to raise funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
