We are looking forward to meeting you and encourage you to make our beautiful and spacious guest apartment your home while in the San Francisco Bay Area! We have enjoyed hosting people from around the world over the last eight years and are excited to host you! My husband and I are parents of two, both of whom attended the University of Michigan. Go Blue!

Your non-smoking home away from home is located on the first floor, with separate entrance, of our Victorian home. The garden apartment is located right off the driveway and you will have exclusive use of the driveway to park your car. Note: One car only. If you want to park two, please check with me before booking as we are also committed to ensuring no impact to our neighbors with street parking. We live in the top two floors and are always available to help! The house is located in sunny, suburban Burlingame, an approximately 20-30 minute drive from both San Francisco and Palo Alto. We are a 10-15 minute walk to the Burlingame Caltrain station, a short 15 minute drive or bus ride to the Millbrae BART station, and a 7-10 minute drive to SFO International Airport.

Additionally, we are walking distance (15 minute walk) to Burlingame Avenue, our friendly and fun downtown as well as Washington Park, a very complete park for kids and adults. There are fun activities for kids as well as nice restaurants, boutiques, and events for adults. Burlingame boasts fabulous farmers’ markets and art shows and concerts in the park throughout the summer, as well as street fairs and fine dining – there really is something for everyone! Each summer, I put together a binder of the assorted fairs, concerts, and events to make it easier to find out what the locals go to in the area!

Your apartment consists of a bright and comfortable living room, a quiet and cozy bedroom with a quality queen bed (see note below about additional bed for third person), and a furnished kitchen and bathroom. Provided in the kitchen is a standard-size refrigerator/freezer, two large single-burner portable INDUCTION cooktops, a microwave, a convection/toaster oven, a Keurig coffeemaker and an electric hot water kettle, as well as plenty of tableware, dishes, glassware and cookware.

GARDEN apartment: The apartment is located on the first floor and 12" below grade. While it has full size windows, it is more shaded than upper floors. The pictures give a good feel for lighting which is bright in the living room during the morning and shaded in the afternoon while the bedroom is shaded during the morning and bright in the afternoon. Your views from the living room are of the driveway and towards the street in front of the house and the view from the bedroom is of the neighboring fence and our access area that is used for storing my husband's construction materials (he is a general contractor).

The backyard and deck (we encourage you to use them!) are accessed through the driveway gate. In non-COVID years, access is also available internally by exiting the back door of the apartment, through the shared laundry room and then through the house back door (distance is 5 meters from the apartment back door to back yard). While the COVID-19 pandemic is a problem, we want to keep complete separation between the apartment and the rest of the house, hence the need to access the back yard via the driveway gate.

KITCHEN: The full size oven/stovetop is NOT hooked up therefore minimal cooking is possible utilizing the two induction burners, separate convection oven and microwave (see pictures). We have received very positive feedback on the induction burners but we want to highlight the difference to our potential guests so that they know that this is induction, and not gas or traditional electric. The kitchen also does NOT have a garbage disposer or dishwasher. There is a small countertop compost bin for food scraps as well as a large sink for washing the dishes by hand.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: The apartment is best for two people using the queen bed but can accommodate three if needed with an additional per day charge of $30. The third person would be on a portable twin bed that can be placed in either the bedroom or in the living room off to the side (see picture). Keep in mind that a standard twin bed is 38" x 75" and our portable bed is 36.5" x 72" which works very well for children and smaller adults. Taller teens and adults should keep this size in mind when evaluating appropriateness of our apartment as we want you to be comfortable! I add a memory foam mattress to make the portable bed more comfortable or we can alternatively set up the sofa as a bed if that is preferred

We will provide initial coffee and tea supplies, a welcome basket of goodies (such as snacks, yogurt, milk, cereal, etc), olive oil, vinegars, some spices, and plenty of toiletries. However, in case you run out or forget something – who doesn’t? – you can walk 5 minutes to a shopping complex with Safeway (groceries), CVS pharmacy, Starbucks, and Chevron gas/petrol station!

We have a beautiful backyard with lots of flowers and trees, and a sport court, complete with a ping pong table for summer use. We encourage you to take full advantage of these, as well as the hot tub. Access to the backyard during COVID-19 is through the driveway. It is a shared space with our family, although you will have your privacy when you plan to use it. It’s a great space to have your coffee, wine, etc.

- We have high-speed wireless Internet.
- A printer/copier/scanner is located in our main house and is available should you need it.
- We have provided many guidebooks and maps, but please do not hesitate to ask us about attractions – we have extensive knowledge of the whole Bay Area, from Palo Alto all the way to San Francisco and the East Bay. Joe grew up in SF – he’ll have you navigating like a local in no time!
- While you stay here, you are welcome to the driveway for parking one car.

We are a fun family of four: parents Lynn and Joe, both daughters having now graduated from college and working in the San Francisco area. We are a respectful and outgoing family and we look forward to your stay in our home!

ADDITIONAL NOTE: We have 1 cat that is shy but friendly who periodically escapes into the apartment therefore cat allergies beware :). Because we share space in our home including the laundry room and entry into the backyard and the cat periodically gets into the apartment, we can not allow any animals at all, including Service Animals and Emotional Support Animals to protect the safety of the animals.

We love our neighborhood because it is close to shopping yet quiet. I like being able to decide to have a Starbucks latte, take a 5 minute walk and have that latte a couple minutes later! We are central to everything. Caltrain is a 10 minute walk and downtown Burlingame is just beyond the train station.

Downtown Burlingame is quaint and fun - Many dining and shopping options and it is fun and safe to stroll among the neighborhoods. There are a lot of stores so visiting a mall may not be needed! Some highlights include:

I am originally from Colorado but have lived in the San Francisco Bay for 30 years.
