Spaniard's Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

While staying with us you will be visiting the Baccalieu Trail and can only be described as historic, full of culture, many fascinating museums, trails, music, art, scenery, wildlife, quaint villages and great food. A two day stay is ideal for the Baccalieu Trail! Brigus (home of Captain Bob Bartlett and his home Hawthorne Cottage), Cupids (the oldest English settlement in North America at 410 years), Bay De Grave with rolling hills, marinas, salt box houses scattered through the villages and Hibbs cove with the fisherman's museum, Porter House Museum and the old school house is simply fascinating. Keep moving to the Bay Roberts Shoreline Walk where the rock walls and root cellars remind you of the people that lived there in 1600-1700's until ravished with war and forced to relocate. Spanish fisherman frequented our area and so goes the name Spaniards Bay and The Spaniards Room. We are home to 565 million year old fossils, the United Church Museum, Lassy wall and even where you stay, our home, is a preserved heritage building. Amelia flew across the Atlantic from the green meadow airstrip by Lady Lake in Harbour Grace and the Kyle sits in the harbour on a shoal to remind us of the old vessels that sailed our waters. Bristol's Hope and Carbonear spill over in tales and history about Princess Sheila Nageira and the infamous Pirate Peter Easton. You have driven no more than 15 - 20 min in any direction yet. Up the coast you go to many villages along the best coastal drive in Newfoundland with icebergs, whales, colourful houses, beautiful landscape, ocean views around every turn, museums, craft shops and many many smiles! Bay de Verde, Grates Cove, Old Perlican, Winterton, Hearts Content, Dildo and the list goes on, are all places you must visit to experience the true Newfoundland. The historic Cable Station, where they layed down the transatlantic cable in 1865 that stretched to our friends in Ireland, is a real treasure. The Wooden Boat Building museum is a favourite and educates visitors from all over the world in the craft of wooden boat building back to the time of the birch bark canoe. Food, Food, Food! Besides our own full cooked breakfast and in house dining there are restaurants and unique dining experiences everywhere; if you like seafood lets just say you are visiting the fishing capital of Newfoundland. We also have grocery stores, malls, Walmart, Canadian Tire, drug stores, Hospitals, medical clinics, dinner theatre and, well, everything you need a short drive away. The Baccalieu Trail is the perfect blend of new meets old. It is history, it is beauty, it is everything you can imagine when planning your trip to our lovely island and we are here to help you plan every step of the way. Did I mention us? The Newfoundlanders with our unique dialect, sense of humor a very intelligent way of life.
