WASHI is traditional Japanese paper made with unique TESUKI techniques, a manual process of producing paper using fibers of the kozo tree(paper mulberry). In this workshop, you can experience the time-honored TESUKI WASHI making techniques and make your own WASHI paper with step-by-step instructions from a seasoned WASHI craftsman. Our WASHI paper exclusively uses natural materials indigenous to Japan, which lends a rustic and warm charm to it. Enjoy the unique experience and bring your handmade WASHI home as a memento of your trip to Japan. 1. Meet me at the WASHI shop, in located local city, about an hour from central Tokyo. 2. Deepen your understanding of washi in the tea room inside the shop before hopping to craft studio. 3. Learn about the overall process and prepare the materials. Tesuki washi production involves a painstaking process of selecting natural materials and manufacturing, as each sheet of washi paper offers unique character and beauty depending on its material or thickness. 4. Put the materials on a screen and shake it to strain the water and spread the fibers evenly. 5. Add designs on the paper utilizing natural elements such as flower petals or an ear of rice. 6. Strain the water off further before going through the finishing process, and there you have it – your own washi paper!

I'm Jun, a host of having been receiving excellent review with over 500 guests, a head of "Wasabi Project". Our mission is deliver quality of Japanese experiences to you. We have welcomed totally over 1,000 guests. In this experience, Koichi will be your host. He has studied how to make traditional "Japanese Paper" (WASHI) from tree bark of paper mulberry, over 20 years. WASHI is also known for its durability and high quality washi paper is said to last a thousand years. He is even planting the paper mulberry itself! Usually he is a craftsman to create paper variety of Japanese paper crafts. His works are very unique and beautiful. Within the Japanese paper, he sometimes put on Japanese seasonal flowers.
