Esperienza con gli animali proposta da Ruth And Keith

Programma

We will meet at Keith's house in Pittman Center, have a quick orientation to the area and birding, and then head out on foot to explore the community of Emerts Cove, a section of Pittman Center, one of the richest bird areas in this part of Sevier County. We might elect to drive a short distance to a local pond and horse pasture which are often very rich in bird life. But for the most part, we'll walk for about 2.5 hours, maybe a bit more, and explore the wooded areas, forest edges, tree and hedgerows and grassy and weedy fields for a variety of bird life. Spring and summer are always better because migrant birds have returned from their wintering grounds to breed in this area and bird song is much richer. But autumn and winter are still great times to explore the bird life in Emerts Cove. During our walk, we can talk about rich history of Emerts Cove and Pittman Center as well as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

FALL Songbird migration is a great time to look for migrants and winter birds from the NORTH are moving in! Spring and Summer bring early migrants and breeding birds. There is always an abundant richness of bird life in the area!
After we have explored the area for about 2.5 - 3 hours, we'll return to Keith's home and depart.
Other things to note
We will walk rain or shine, cold or warm, unless it's pouring and we'll try to reschedule. Wear appropriate weather and climate gear. A hat always helps with sun and any insects, bring sunscreen.

Absolutely amazing experience! Keith is incredibly knowledgeable, generous and patient. Thoroughly enjoyed my first birdwatching experience. Both Keith and Ruth are charming (and great musicians also - ask them about their music!! :) ) Will definitely being doing this again!!

I had waited for a few years to see a Pileated Woodpecker from up close. Birding with Keith brought it to a reality. Have no words to describe how friendly, kind and wonderful the hosts were. The birding began around their beautiful home located alongside a beautiful river and in the midst of nature. Keith is super knowledgeable and that's not limited to birds but applies to the flora and other fauna around him. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that Ruth and Keith are also accomplished musicians. Would love to visit and stay in the airbnb they rent out to enjoy some of the birds we missed because of a cold october spell. Keith is also tech savvy and shared links to several resources to enhance our birding skills. Thank you for everything ! Pallavi

Keith is genuinely passionate about birds and more importantly his love of sharing his knowledge. My husband and 2 young children (12 & 11) loved bird watching before but Keith added something special to their intrigue. We are so thankful and highly recommend this experience when you are near the Smokey Mountains.

Bird watching was brought to life with Keith. The bird watching experience was laid back yet professional and enthusiastic. We highly recommend the experience not only for bird watching but for a glimpse of Tennessee lifestyle. Keith shared a knowledge account of bird migration as well as references for future bird watching.

Oh, my. This experience is slow, beautiful, and meditative. A perfect experience for families with bright and curious children, or adults with those same qualities. We came during the “slow season” (bird wise). Keith alerted us that there wouldn’t be as many birds to see in this early week of August, and he was right. But our family loved the experience all the same. If anything, the lack of birds made the moment of discovery a little sweeter when someone would say “I see one!” Keith is not only a seasoned biologist, but a sensitive soul. My daughter said, “I could have sat with him on the back porch watching birds all day.” Me too. To be honest, I’m a guy who has never paid much attention to birds, but Keith’s love is contagious. Now my attention is directed to these miraculous little creatures that have been surrounding me all along. What draws you to the mountains? Why do you come to this part of the country? There are certainly touristy distractions to be found in this place of constant stimulation. But the really good stuff is hidden in the unexpected places. So grab your loved ones; Clear your mind, slow your breath, and look up the trees. This is a gift.
