In the morning, you will be picked up to begin a tour of the historic Treme neighborhood. See Congo Square where slaves gathered and modern American music was born. See Armstrong Park, St. Augustine Church and the Tomb of the Unknown Slave. Learn about Jazz history, civil rights struggles and the famous culture bearers who made New Orleans what is is today. Walk along historic streets and learn about traditional Creole architecture and what the past, present and future hold for this area. For lunch you will head up into Cajun Country for some delicious locally caught seafood. Try rabbit gumbo, soft shell crab, alligator or frog legs and explore an attached market for culinary souvenirs. After lunch you head to Whitney Plantation for a 2 hour tour. Learn about the slave history of Louisiana and hear stories from slaves who lived here. Tour the property, and then there is a 1 hour drive back to New Orleans. Get home between 5 and 6pm. Along the way you will learn about the nature & history of the areas you are traveling through.
