Cosa farete

The aim of the experience is for you to learn how to make sourdough bread in a relaxed, fun environment. The experience begins at 10.30am in my kitchen. You will get to experience the sensation of working with living dough; you will make your own bread using wild yeast sourdough ferment (the starter). You will learn how to 'feed' the starter so that it can last for many years to come; you will bake high quality bread in a customised domestic oven (which can be easily replicated when back home). I shall show you a simple but effective kneading technique to make light and airy dough quickly and efficiently. You will learn to make your own sourdough loaf using wild yeast ferment (starter), a blend of organic white flour and ancient grains (such as spelt flour), water and sea salt. To round off the experience, you will be offered a buffet-style lunch with a complementary glass of wine. Your 'going home present' will be a jar of starter ferment and some fresh-baked bread.

A couple of years ago I became healthily addicted to the taste of sourdough bread and a true convert. I became a regular buyer of Bertinet bread at Waitrose but then decided to learn how to make bread myself. And set off to Bath to learn from the master himself, Richard Bertinet. While the ingredients are few and simple - flour, water, ferment, salt - developing the skill and the confidence to "show the dough who is boss", can benefit from a guiding hand. In August 2018, I successfully completed Bertinet's week-long, intensive bread-making course and have been baking sourdough ever since. I now provide fresh sourdough for my Airbnb guests and am keen to share my passion, knowledge and Bertinet's 'kneading' technique with others, in a fun and relaxed environment. If my dates do not suit, please contact me directly via Airbnb.

The experience will take place in my home in Henley (free parking outside and walking distance from the train station). We will use the kitchen, dining room and , weather permitting, the garden.
