Cosa farete

Meet the group in the Old Mission Dam parking lot on Father Junipero Serra Trail road by 8:05am (main gates open at 8). We'll take a few minutes for intros and start our walk by 8:15. Our leisurely hike will start out in the expansive grasslands where we'll stop at a Kumeyaay grinding rocks site and the picturesque Old Mission Dam overlook. From there, we'll hike the beautiful, partially-shaded Oak Canyon trail until we connect with the path that leads us to the Old Mission Dam. Along the way, we'll look for red tail hawks, roadrunners, blue herons, and other native wild life. A national historic landmark, the dam was the first major colonial-era irrigation project on the Pacific coast of the United States. It was built in 1803 to direct water flow from the San Diego River to the fields of the first Spanish mission in California. Our trip will end at the dam, where I'll share info on other family- and dog-friendly places in San Diego. The hike is an easy 1.5 mile loop and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. Great for ages 7+ with or without dogs. Bring your camera for photo ops!

Bridget

Hello! I'm Bridget, a native San Diegan with a passion for the outdoors. I've been hiking/camping all over San Diego and beyond for 30+ years. Connecting with nature, especially with my dog Sammy, is my favorite way to relax and destress. I live in the beautiful San Carlos neighborhood where I'm a stones throw away from Mission Trails Regional Park. I'm so fortunate to be able to explore these amazing trails weekly. If you're traveling with your kids or pooch (or not!), join us! We look forward to sharing this beautiful preserve with you.

Dove ti troverai

Centrally located 8 miles northeast of downtown San Diego, Mission Trails Regional Park has been called the Third Jewel in the City of San Diego park system. Along with Balboa Park and Mission Bay Park, it offers visitors an opportunity to recreationally explore San Diego's culture and history. Originally used by the Kumeyaay, the park is the site of the Old Mission Dam, built to provide water for the first Spanish mission in California.
