A History/Photography Tour focusing on the US Capitol, the Library of Congress, and the US Supreme Court.
- The meet place to start the tour is outside the entrance to the Cannon House of Representatives Office Building, 1st & C Streets, SE. This is half a block north of the escalator exit of the Capitol South Metro Station, served by the Blue, Orange & Silver Lines.
- While the Capitol remains closed to visitors, this tour is the next best thing to a tour inside the Capitol.
- Visitors are encouraged to ask questions & probe the guides' "inside' knowledge of Capitol Hill
- The tour is also designed to help guests build a photographic record, with key photo stops along the way.
- The tour route is a complete loop around the 4 sides of the Capitol, with stops on the East Plaza of the Capitol, the main entrance of the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court Plaza, the west lawn of the Capitol, ending at the Grant Statue/Capitol Reflecting Pool, easy walk to three Metro Stations and Smithsonian Museums.
- Visitors should leave with an appreciation of the history of "The Hill", stories from a former US Senate (and White House) staffer, and a nice set of photographs, and possibly some new friends from across the country or world.

I was born in Savannah, Georgia but have spent more than half my life in Washington, DC, after graduating from the University of Georgia, followed by a graduate degree from Oxford University.
My first paid job after university was an entry-level position in the office of a US Senator. I was basically a college-educated mailroom staffer, but it was a job that opened the door for an entry-level job in the White House.
My first promotion was a return to The Hill as chief of staff to a US Senator, where I remained for seven years until appointed by the President & confirmed by the Senate a seat on the US International Trade Commission, & ultimately, USITC Chairman.
With public service and private sector careers before retirement, and a lifelong love of history, I now have for me the perfect retirement job as a licensed tour guide.

This was a highlight of our trip to DC! Despite the Capitol being closed for COVID, Daniel lead an interesting and entertaining "external tour", complete with historical facts, interesting Capitol anecdotes about our home state, and incredible stories of his personal experiences on Capitol Hill. He was attentive, generous, and unassuming, and the more we asked the more we realized he has had some incredible life experiences. Don't be shy with questions as that is how you will get the best of Daniel! Highly recommended, and we'll be sure to book him again for our next trip to DC!

A tour with Daniel is a treat from start to finish. His knowledge of the history of the Capitol is encyclopedic, and his passion for Washington DC matches that. He clearly loves history and sharing his knowledge. I learned a lot. He was very thoughtful and considerate as well, and gave me a great recommendation for a place to get some work done after the tour. I will take another tour with Daniel in the future and highly recommend him as a local guide.

Perfect Host! Sleep deprived we arrived 1:30pm to DCA, got off on the wrong metro stop and hastily walked up the hill to our Supreme Court lodging to drop off luggage for our 2:30 tour. We were feeling disheveled from so many just barely made it moments. Lost, we stopped to ask for directions a couple of blocks and minutes late for our meet-up. As though Daniel knew, he phoned and saved us a block of walking by bringing his other guests in our direction. We were mesmerized by his stories of a lifetime of public service. Daniel touched me with a story of inclement weather on the day I was born-confirming the one my Mother told. This octogenarian seems to have a pure heart. He unknowingly met many of our needs and made us feel instantly welcome and connected by telling us both personal stories and showing us where recent newsworthy events had occurred. After the tour he went the extra mile by offering further assistance which helped us to acclimate to our new environment. Thank you Daniel for being there for so many on our Capital’s Hill. Yours is a life well lived.

Daniel was very kind and knowledgeable about the Capitol and surrounding areas. I’m sure if we were allowed inside the places we passed by the tour would’ve been even better, but he had several photos of the inside and was a great storyteller.
