Cosa farete

Imagine kings and queens in mountain-top palaces, a kaleidoscope of bright colours. Magical forests filled with fairies, hidden treasure, or even ghosts. Some kids grew up dreaming of fairy tales. But we didn’t have to imagine. Our hometown, Sintra, is a region filled with real life castles and mysterious legends.

Join us as we explore this UNESCO World Heritage town known for its romantic architecture and landscaping. We’ll start the day with a visit to the magical Quinta da Regaleira, a palace and gardens filled with mystery, metaphors and underground tunnels. We’ll take in the view of all five palaces and the 8th-century Moorish Castle as we cruise around in one of our restored convertible UMM jeeps. We can take you off-road to epic lookouts and secret spots other visitors can’t reach.

Next stop, lunch at a traditional Portuguese restaurant in a small village. Think fresh fish or tasty meat on the wood-fired grill and plenty of wine! After a quick cafezinho (coffee) we’ll get back on the road passing through dense forests to the 12th century Peninha Sanctuary. Built 500 metres above sea level, from here you’ll take in 360-degree views of the forest, the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais. The day finishes with a visit to Pena Palace, the red-and-yellow Disney-like castle that sits atop Sintra’s second highest peak.

Olá, we’re FlaminGO Experiences! As little kids exploring their wild streaks we left no stone unturned in our magical hometown Sintra. Our mums complained when we came home dirty, tired and covered in cuts and bruises, but the mountains and coast were – and still are – our playground. Now we know almost every hidden secret and we’ve turned our passion for adventure, storytelling and vintage jeeps into our jobs. Between castles and the coastline we like to go beyond ordinary – driving off-road, eating local sweets, and snapping Polaroids at the beach. If you’re ready for one of the coolest days of your life (2000+ 5-star reviews back that up) – let’s GO! P.S Click Francisco's photo to check out our other journeys out or stalk us on IG @flamingo_experiences

Dove ti troverai

With more than six palaces from the romantic era and a Moorish Castle from the 8th century topping one hill, Sintra is UNESCO World Heritage area. This journey stops at the two most popular palaces – Quinta da Regaleira and Pena Palace. Plus drive off-road in one of our epic jeeps through the magical and mystical forests that surround the town. Passing through Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, we’ll drive up to an incredible lookout.

We had our tour with Mário and he was very friendly and knowledgable! He took us to some great spots some of which were away from all the tourist hustle and bustle, which meant that we could actually enjoy it. The restaurant that you go for lunch is lovely too, the food was delicious! Overall would definitely recommend this tour, thanks again Mário

In some mixed feelings about the experience. On one hand our guide was a great and lovely person and I did have some good time. On the other I have problems with things going not as they are planned. The description lists 3 places to see - quinta da regaleira, pena palace and peninha sanctuary. This last one was the main reason I booked this tour but we skipped it and only went to the palace and the quinta - and those don't really require a jeep ride. So, I guess if you're staying in Sintra and/or are good with maps m and wiki info you can see all the gardens and palaces on your own and at your own pace. If you're staying in Lisbon and only have one day for Sintra this tour will work for you perfectly - you will be picked up at the train station, taken to the main sights and a lovely local restaurant with some delicious food (and an adorable chonky cat) and told all the stories Sintra's got to offer.

Absolutely wonderful host, made us feel really welcome. He was from the area so knew the history as well as lots of personal stories and local information. Excellent English, and fun to be with! Couldn't have had a similar experience without this tour group.

Paulo was an excellent tour guide. He was super knowledgeable about the area and history. Also, he kept our group on schedule so we could see everything at the very best times (i.e. Pena Palace at sunset!). It was an unforgettable day in Sintra and I hope to get a chance to come back!

Mario was great! We were lucky to have a guide that grew up in Sintra and knew about the area, especially the things outside touristy places. The restaurant we stopped for lunch was great, best Portuguese meal we’ve had so far. It was a fun tour in a beautiful place and we are glad we booked it (last minute)!
