A class on the Art of French Pastry.

Enthusiasts will learn basic and advanced techniques on how to make a variety of classic and modern French desserts, including making a Creme Brulee, and layered desserts including building your very own Opera cake ( a sumptuous almond sponge layered cake made with a genuine French Buttercream and a Chocolate Ganache , Madeleines, and a delicate Pistachio Financier cake round out this comprehensive 3 hour class.

All classes will be hands on with a demonstration, and allowing students to have their own ingredients and equipment in a follow up modality of this interactive class offering.

Patrons finish up by torching their own Brulee, and caramelizing them along with decorating and finishing their very own individual Opera cake glazing it with a mirror Chocolate glaze. As a finishing touch they adorn the Opera with a fleck of edible gold leaf as decor adornment.

The Boardroom is an outstanding restaurant located in the downtown part of Arlington, Virginia. As a part of conducting the classes, guests can order appetizers, and drinks, making for an even more social event. The venue itself is hosted in their MS. PEACOCK’S CHAMPAGNE LOUNGE room" an intimate sprawling room, that offers enough space to spread out and adequately keep to 6 foot social distancing regulations for safety.

My 12 year old niece loved it. She said it was wonderful in so many ways, but especially because she was empowered even though she was the youngest in the class.

We had fun but The class was geared more for those who didn’t want to do very much on their own. Everything was pre measured and ready to go. Chef Michael was very personable , organized and very knowledgeable. The best part of the class! I didn’t quite understand when I paid for two people that we would be sharing everything, I thought we would each have our own station and make our own items. I also felt very crowded and not extremely safe as we had 10 people packed around a bar top. We were not in a kitchen setting. We all chose to wear our masks. All in all it was a fun experience and we made quite a few things in a short time! I would say take the class as you will come away knowing how to make some great desserts.

Michael was very knowledgeable and helpful with this introduction to baking the French pastries. A lot of the nitty gritty ingredients were pre-prepared so he was able to focus on techniques, and he explained everything that was being demonstrated as well.

We enjoyed our experience with Michael. We were the only guests that day so we got lots of attention and help when needed. Michael has a lot of experience in the food world and he shared a few things with us. He was patient and made adjustments in speed depending on our speed. Additional tricks and shortcuts were very helpful. Space was ready for us when we arrived and all the ingredients were laid out. Michael keeps a safe and clean kitchen. A little envious of that. All in all, a very good experience. Would recommend.

My husband got me the perfect birthday gift which was a French dessert cooking class! Michael did a wonderful job presenting the classic recipes. He was well organized and enthusiastic while cooking. He taught us a bit about the history, ingredients and a few techniques of French cooking. It is quite clear he has a love and passion for his craft. We ate the perfect amount in class and even had lots to take home to enjoy with family!! I look forward to joining him again for a croissant class. Highly recommend.

I signed up for this experience with my daughters. We made so much delicious food and heard lots of funny and interesting stories. Chef Michael helped walk us through the recipes and gave us a copy to take home. If you enjoy desert at all, this is the experience for you.
