Very cool experience, brilliantly curated mansion museum. We had a great time, I’ll come back with another group for sure. Hidden gem with thousands of stories.

You’re going to want to take your time in here! We would have stayed more than the 2.5 hours we did, but our parking meter ran out. Could keep exploring all day!

This was a fun experience and the rooms were very cool. I did think I would get a bit more bang for my buck though as $30 is steep. They also charge $6 if you want to hang up your coat. As a museum, this place is a cool idea. The hidden doors were a bit underwhelming and the walls are covered with artwork which made it feel a bit claustrophobic and disorganized. If you want to feel like a detective, book an escape room for cheaper.

This place was CRAZY! Takes you to an entirely different world and me and my friends loved every second of it. It was definitely a one of a kind experience and I would recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a fun time in DC!

This experience had a lot of potential and fell quite flat. Before saying anything else, I would like to note that all of the staff we met and spoke with were delightful and very knowledgeable. They all seemed to genuinely enjoy being there and provided very helpful information and directions. I have absolutely no critiques of the staff, they were lovely. The space and experience itself left a lot to be desired. First of all, the listing says “explore an old speakeasy” which is NOT what this is. It is a privately-owned museum, mansion, and hotel. It’s an historical building spanning five DC row houses. It was never a speakeasy, and the “speakeasy room” was just a themed area. The promise of seeing the room Rosa Parks stayed in was what I was looking forward to most, but it was indeed just a room she stayed in once with a few informative posters up. There were no personal items and the room is otherwise rented out through their hotel. The hotel is the same space as the museum, by the way, and you’ll be pulling on the doors of guests and running into them in the halls as you “search” for “hidden” doors. Needless to say, they didn’t look pleased about this. Every single thing in this building is for sale at an absurdly steep price, and there are a LOT of things - it honestly felt more like an overstuffed thrift shop had started offering building tours than it did a museum. Random items placed on literally every surface in a random fashion. “Autographed” guitars all around (and a Lord of the Rings script as well?), but the autographs didn’t match that of the celebrity when I looked it up. So that was sketchy. You’re gonna get sweaty. Bring a hair tie. There are six floors accessed by rickety staircases, most without any railing or anything to hold on to. The walls are covered wall to ceiling in art, which you are instructed not to touch but it’s nearly impossible not to bump into things here. The “70 hidden doors” claim is also misleading. The majority of those are small, and are literally just cleaning supply cabinets with signs that say, “You’ve found a door, but please don’t open it.” The full-sized secret doors were obvious due to visible hinges and a glaring lack of art on that singular area of the wall. Also? Jesus stuff everywhere. That’s fine, it’s a private company and they can do what they want, but I didn’t pay for a religiously-flavored tour of a hoarder’s home. In all honesty, it was just a disappointing use of an historical space that could have been incredibly beautiful if it weren’t filled to overflowing with random dirty items. I’m sad for the building. To their credit, you can purchase liquor in the downstairs lobby. So there’s that.
