Feast & chill like locals

Take a breather with this curated Malaysian Food 101 experience at the off the beaten tourists path, under your Google search radar. No throng of busses, no selfie sticks, only locals doing their day-to-day activities. When you're tired of the city, make way to the burbs to catch locals in action. Recommended at the beginning of your trip for easy gastronomy maneuvering during the rest of your adventure in Malaysia!

You will get to indulge the must-try multiracial Malaysians dishes (Read; don't leave Malaysia without tasting these) and delve how each race in Malaysia have influence in how each dish turns out. Brace yourself for at least 5 types of main dishes, 7 types of drinks, cold dessert and hot dessert for a solo traveller. More dish variations in a larger group as you get to share without feeling full fast. To date, only one guest holds the All Finisher title, you are welcomed to seize the title. :D

Local fruit testing. Seasonal fruits will only be available during specific time. (Durian / Mangosteen/ Longan) Let me know if you have particular fruits that you want to try!

I am more than willing to help you tick off some of the items in your food bucket list or simply fulfilling your wish or craving like trying out durian, eating Korean food or hunting sambal for souvenir.

It started with my interest to venture out of the city and everything non-touristy to see where locals hang out when travelling abroad to see their day-to-day life. I've already working part time as human Remy of Ratatouille, scurrying from one eateries to another trying new food joints, recreating my favourites at home and selling pavlovas online. I love how our multiracial setting in Malaysia influence the food we eat and I want to to share it with you. This Airbnb experience is further inspired from bringing my Airbnb home guests to local hangouts to save them from tourist traps they found out online written by other travellers who thought it's delicious because they never tasted the real thing. All these local ventures need insider's tip and I'm that insider. See you at the burbs!

Dove ti troverai

Dubbed Brooklyn, Hongdae and Haji Lane of Malaysia by my past guests, SS15 Subang Jaya is the hub for good food, latest happenings, and the birthplace of new trends such as The Boba Street with more than 10 bubble tea shops cause why settled with one? The locals, the hip, the young and the gold call it "Fifteen". All the points we will visit are locals personal favourites, all within walking distance.

We had a lovely evening exploring Afiza's neighbourhood and very tasty favourite places. She is very kind and has a lot of stories about the places and development of the area. Do skip lunch on the day of the tour because you will want to savour every dish.

Afiza was an awesome guide! We walked around an area I would never had known about if I hadn’t gone on this tour. I am vegetarian and she made sure I got to try all the dishes. And boy are there a lot of dishes, I would recommend skipping lunch haha. Would highly recommend this tour!

Amazing experience, prepare to eat A LOT. If you’re doing the evening tour, skip lunch! We spent the evening walking to 4-5 different places trying a few dishes/beverages at each location. The food was amazing and Afiza is such a kind and knowledgeable host. Highly recommend this tour :)

I had such a great time with Azifa on this tour. My husband and I have done several street food tours throughout SE Asia, and this one felt the most authentic - like were hanging out with friends we had known for a long time. There were moments I forget this was something we booked through Airbnb. The experience takes places pretty far outside KLCC. It took us about 1.5 hours by car to get out there in traffic (take the train!), but it was well-worth the trip. The area is clearly inhabited by locals, not tourists, so you get a real glimpse into how people in KL spend their time. We sampled a wide variety of food and drinks spanning from Malay to Chinese and Indian cuisine. All of it was incredibly delicious. Azifa herself was warm, friendly, and great to be around. The group was smaller than a lot of food tours, so we were able to have highly engaging conversations and form connections among ourselves. I walked away feeling very full and enriched by the perspectives and stories from Azifa and the other guests. Highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to spend an evening developing a connection to Malaysia, its food, and its people.

TLDR: Book this food tour without a second thought, especially if you’re new to Malaysian cuisine. Afiza will immediately put you at ease and before you know it, it’ll be like spending a night out with friends. Some context: I’m a somewhat reserved person and not big on mingling or meeting new people. I was initially hesitant to book a food tour. But after wandering around on my own and feeling completely lost amidst the hundreds of options and varieties that Malaysian cuisine has to offer, I gave up and booked with Afiza as a last resort. She gave me very clear instructions about reaching the meeting point. Afiza is one of those people who’ll immediately make you comfortable with conversation, and I found myself talking to her and connecting very easily. The market we explored is way outside the touristy city centre and it was a breath of fresh air just being out and about amongst local suburbia, and getting a feel for daily life here. The food we ate was delicious, with a lot of variety and plenty of local drinks. And never once did I feel like I was going through the motions of a “food tour”. A crash course in Malaysian cuisine can feel overwhelming so Afiza also followed up later with a looong thoughtful note naming and describing all the stuff we had, and even many more options in and around KL. This will be incredibly helpful. TLDR 2: Just book it.

I loved this experience! I’ve done food tours in Fukuoka and Taipei but I think this was the most “local” and authentic experience. I tried many Malaysian foods from a range of Malaysia’s cultural groups, many of which were foods I wouldn’t have known what or how to order without guidance. I also liked how the tour is in a more residential area with a neighborhood feel because it showed where real people in KL eat and live. Afiza is super warm and friendly, and we easily chatted about everything from Korean dramas to Malaysian culture, so the five hours flew by. She also tried to tailor the food to my tastes, as I was able to customize many of the foods we ordered. She gifted me a sustainable bamboo straw that I’ll keep as a reminder of my KL trip :) Definitely sign up for this tour, even if you’re a solo traveler like me, and try to pace yourself so you don’t get full super fast like I did haha you will be fed SO much delicious food.
