This is a Nature walk in the midst of Auckland's Eastern Suburbia, the birds and the quiet begins just 10 mins from a busy Rd. Medium to light terrain with the initial stages going down hill on an unsecured track, it is suitable to have good foot wear and pay attention to where you step. The first stop is a fresh water pond, which is the beginning of Purewa Stream. If you pay attention you can often spot Red Dragon Flies dancing above the water in between the spots of sun shinning through the trees. We then follow the path as it weaves through the fauna & bush tracing Purewa all the way to the Mangroves where the salt water begins & the fauna changes. There a several areas where we can stop along the way to spot some birds & even the odd eel, I will point out many things that I have learnt about the area and its inhabitants. The bird life along this trail is up close and personal. Often the cute Fan Tail birds will follow you & the sounds are remarkable especially that of the native Tui, they can be quite friendly in this dense habitat. Further along towards the end of the walk, we stop at a look out with views of Purewa Cemetary, this is often the best place to spot the Native Hawk spiralling on the up drafts. There are many & numerous unique interesting spots along the way to take a rest, have a snack, ask some questions or take some snaps. Custom walks available also.
