Cosa farete

You will start your tour at the southern end of the Petaling Street, where shophouses were built in the late 19th century. These shophouses still house a host of traditional businesses from the yesteryear. You will visit two unique temples - a Sikh Gurdwara and a Goddess of Mercy - that have withstood the changing landscape of Chinatown over the decades. You will also visit a restored Lorong Panggung alleyway that is the hottest Instagram location in the area, featuring beautiful and colorful wall murals. You will get a personal tour of my clan association, Chan She Shu Yuen, one of the oldest and most active clan houses in Kuala Lumpur. You will learn the history behind the founding of this clan house, the architecture and the types of festival it holds annually, before we proceed to indulge in the Chinese art of preparing tea. This tea house offers you the tools, tea leaves and knowledge to understand the fine art of tea drinking. By the end of the walk, you will have experienced and learned the history and culture of the Chinese in Chinatown Kuala Lumpur within a 2-hour tour.

Dove ti troverai

As a member of Chan She Shu Yuen clan association, I'll be explaining the significant timeline of this clan house, its special design and architecture, and the annual festivals it holds. You will visit the Goddess of Mercy temple up on a hill to seek enlightenment and walk to one of the oldest practicing Sikh Gudwara temples in the city centre. You will also learn the art of preparing, making and drinking tea using traditional Chinese ritual.

We did this experience following the morning experience (Chinese tin mining) both of which are hosted by Ping. I'm glad we did these experiences on the same day, as it was a smooth transition into the afternoon activity, following our lunch together. We really enjoyed our experience with Ping. He is a knowledgeable and caring host with an ability to take good photos! I especially enjoyed the tea ceremony - it was the first time I participated in one and felt incredibly relaxed by the end of it. While we didn't get to visit the clan house due to the Covid outbreak, we instead took our time having our photos taken, so, no complaints from me! Although, as I do find Chinese history incredibly interesting, I hope to visit a clan house in the future.
