The guests select the painting they want to recreate from the gallery, with some guidance from the teacher. I demonstrate the various techniques and applications we will use. We begin with holding a pencil properly for drawing then we get straight into it. 2 hours is not long to complete an entire A3 painting. We start with the composition (the skeleton). I reassure the learner that it is impossible to get this wrong because everything we do now will disappear. It is a clear step-by-step process and the process is the key to success. Once the composition is done we move onto paint (the flesh). I explain the application process and the order in which we apply the paint. When the paint is down, we texture it with tissue and fill the picture out giving us a basic impression of the piece - even now the learner will be able to see a close resemblance to the Monet original. Then the paint is put away and we pause to stretch and refresh, while the teacher quickly dries the paintings using hairdryers. Once the surface is dry we switch to artist quality oil pastels and we start to apply the ‘painted’ surface (the skin). Some areas require smoothing out while other areas require an approximation of Monet’s brush work. Again, every step is demonstrated first. After 2 hours the result is a number of pictures that are the same - but different - impressions of the great Impressionist’s work.
Il tuo host
I am the owner and founder of Monet Magic. I can train anyone, regardless of age, ability, or experience, to recreate a Monet landscape to a level that will cause the participant to amaze themselves. I have lived and worked as a practicing artist in Prague (Czech Republic), Espoo (Finland), Jakarta (Indonesia) and the UK. I taught iGCSE Art and Design at an international school in Jakarta, I have also taught art in a variety of private art class settings. Monet Magic developed from a mixed-medium technique that was designed to give students confidence. The technique allows anyone to create an accurate rendition of a Monet painting with incredible depth and sumptuous colour in a very short space of time. Just keep an open mind and follow some very simple instructions. The rest of the process happens as if...by magic.
