Cosa farete

I provide transportation within Victoria if required (minimum of 2 and maximum of 4) . We will meet at the parking lot of the mountain where I will explain the various forest zones, what to expect on the hike and some of the First Nations history of the mountain. We will then proceed to make our way through the forest, stopping at various locations for wildlife locations, enjoying the variety of flora and viewing the hidden vistas that only locals will know. There is a steeper rocky section for about 10 minutes, overall uphill is about 30 minutes and then the rest is flat or downhill. We will stop at the top for pictures and a snack and water break. Then a leisurely walk down through a fern forest (ferns taller than people) and back to the start. I will provide general information on plants, trees and wildlife but I am not a biologist, arborist or said expert in this field. I am very familiar with this area of Vancouver Island and can identify a variety of local plants, wildlife and trees in the park. I will carry my plant/tree/shrub book of this area with me should you have any further questions on a plant in particular. I will also have binoculars should you wish to use them in your hike for identifying birds or looking out from the vistas. (If you wish a more challenging hike I offer another here on AirBnB experiences on Mt Finlayson which a 3 hour hike and lunch)

Trish has been passionate about healthy living and the outdoors for as long as she can remember and has lived in Victoria her entire life. She graduated from the University of Victoria in a kinesiology degree and pursued many projects and events in healthy living. Her friends will tell you how much she's inspired them to enjoy the outdoors around Victoria as she regularly invites them to join her in hikes, trail riding and even adventure trips in the U.S. For this reason she developed Foggygirl Adventures to share her knowledge of travel and exercising safely to others. She is a former national team runner and her passion and knowledge of the area will create a memorable experience for anyone coming to Victoria for the first time.

Dove ti troverai

Tours are conducted on the multitude of trails that only locals know inside and out on Mount Douglas, or as the First Nations call, Pkols meaning the "beginning of time" for the Coast Salish people. As a local and expert in this area, I know every corner and bump and where local wildlife, sea-life or unique flora are most visible. This is home to redtail hawks, bald eagles, owls, turkey vultures, hummingbirds and the red-headed woodpecker.

Trish was a wonderful caring guide. Her knowledge of the area is outstanding. Trish was always patient and understanding with client fitness and helpful on the tricky parts of the hike. We had a wonderful day and Trish went above and beyond to make this day memorable. We also got to meet Shadow.. Trish’s dog to entertain us along the way. I would certainly recommend this trip to anyone of moderate fitness. Anne and Kym March 2020

It was a damp rainy day but a very nice hike through Mt. Douglas trails. Trish knew a lot about the location, the history of First Nation and the English settlers, and the flora and fauna of the area. We walked through a dense fern grove, saw Arbutus trees, and she pointed out other native plants on the hike. She is very fit but accommodated my occasional slipping in the wet weather. The area was lush and spectacular with mist and many different colours of green. We saw a holly or two with red berries and another yellow bush. I got to chat with Trish about life in Victoria and she had some recommendations on things to do in the area. I highly recommend as a good introduction to hiking in the area.

Trish was very passionate and knowledgeable about the hike and Mt Douglas. I’m grateful to her for guiding the hike, as I probably wouldn’t have gone alone on the path she took me. I enjoyed the background on the forest. She even brought her dog, Shadow, which was a nice experience because there are many animals on the trail and I felt like I was hiking like a local! Would definitely recommend, especially to women traveling solo.

When traveling alone these experiences are perfect. It’s a chance to see things with someone who knows the area. Trish went out of her way to make this a really good experience. Thank you

Our hike with Trish had been a blast! My wife and I enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Trish has been hiking along the area for decades, and was extremely knowledgeable of the region, its history, the wildlife... you name it. The walk was moderately challenging, but not too exhausting, but felt easy due to the engaging conversations we had with Trish. Friendly and forthcoming, we connected with this cheerful lady right away, and tremendously expanded our cultural horizons by spending some time with her. This experience is highly recommended to anyone!! That being said, do keep in mind that those who are not physically fit, obese or otherwise of some impairment or movement-limiting condition, would have a challenge in dealing with such a hike.

I’m in town for the basketball national championships as my daughter is on one of the teams and with one game a day wanted to find something unique to do. This fit in really well into my schedule. Mount Douglas was pretty amazing with all the views, vegetation and a good workout walking up the path but definitely doable if you are in decent shape. She was fabulous. Very accommodating
